Photonic Silicon Waveguide / Atomic Entanglement
IBM, labs at Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley have effectively caused light to slow down as much at 1/300th of its "contstant" speed of 186,000 miles per second. It's funny that this is considered "news" as of 11/2/05 considering slowing down light has been done since at least 1998, and a complete cessation of photon transmission was achieved as far back as 2001.
This has relevance in the field of quantum computing. I'll leave it at that, since I'm a nerd.
