Ohio Gestapo: "Papers, please."

Gov. Bob Taft has a very important decision to make. The Ohio Patriot Act (SB 9 [PDF]) currently sits on his desk awaiting a signature or veto. It is lauded as the most potent piece of legislation ever to come out of any state's congress. It provides for police to arrest any person for failing to give their name, address and date of birth when requested even if they have done nothing illegal (see Sec. 2921.29. (A)).

It would also pave the way for everyone entering critical transportation sites such as, train stations, airports and bus stations to show ID (see Sec. 2909.31. (A)).
